Lockdown Drill Today

JB Nelson School

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

This afternoon we practiced a lockdown drill with students at JB Nelson. This drill was under the supervision of the Batavia Police Department, and consisted of a mental exercise and conversation with students.  During the lockdown, teachers led age-appropriate discussions about appropriate response options to safety threats, including escape routes, door barricades, and other countermeasures.

Every incident is different and dynamic, so it is important for teachers and students to have options to be safe, which include running, hiding, and possibly fighting intruders. To learn more about the principles and concepts these procedures are based on, please see resources from the Department of Homeland Security and the ALICE Training Institute.

Keeping students and staff safe is our first priority and we will continue to increase our communication with you on this topic.

More information about how BPS101 handles emergencies can be found on our website.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Sincerely,

Nicole Prentiss, Principal
