JB Nelson Families,

We had another awesome week of learning at JBN Nelson this week! Students who were absent for IAR testing last week completed make up tests. They all gave their best effort and really took their time on their tests.

Our PE teacher Mr. Albrecht taught all students about pedestrian and bike safety in PE. We do have our Bike/Walk to School scheduled for next Wednesday the 5th. Students are invited to ride their bikes, scooter and/or walk to school and we have modified our poster to be distanced. Instead of signing their name on a poster with a shared marker, they will all receive a pencil for participating and will write their name on a paper “foot” with their new pencil and these paper “feet” will all be placed on our school wide poster! We have invited some community workers to this event and hope that you will be able to join in the fun!

Out students will have their last chance to check out books in the LRC during the week of May 10-14. Please check your homes and make sure that ALL LRC books are returned by May 21st. We will be doing an inventory and deciding which books we need to replace as many went missing during our “at home” learning last spring.

We look forward to seeing ALL in person students on Monday and remember that students do not have school tomorrow, April 30th as that is an institute day for staff!

We’re Hiring!

The success of any future changes in the learning mode will partially rely on the availability of additional staff. We have multiple jobs posted for lunchroom aides and paraprofessionals. More information can be found HERE.

Love Supporting JBN Students? PTO Board Members Needed!

Step up your support for JBN students, teachers, and the school community next year. Sign up to run for PTO Vice President or Assistant Treasurer! The Vice President supports the president with running meetings and coordinating communication with committees when we hold events. If there is ever a PTO meeting that the President cannot attend, the Vice President will step in to run the meeting. The Assistant to the Treasurer will learn the system we use for documenting PTO transactions and will step in to support the Treasurer as needed, such as dropping off or picking up checks from the front office. If either of these positions interest you, or you would like to learn more, please plan to attend our PTO meeting on May 4th at 6:00.  Questions? Want to volunteer or nominate someone? Contact Katy at jbnpto@gmail.com.

Kids Club

The Batavia Park District has restarted the Kids’ Club program for before and after-school care at BPS101 elementary schools.  Information regarding the program and registration is posted on their website. For more information, please contact Bethanne Guidarelli at bethanneg@bataviaparks.org.

Walk/Bike to School Day

Walk/bike to school day is coming up on May 5th.   All students are invited to walk/bike to school.  Please remember to bring a lock for bikes that will be left at school!  All students that participate, including BVA, will have a footprint to place on a wall at the school.

Social Emotional Resource

BPS101 student services staff have put together a Virtual Calming Room containing tools and strategies to help students manage emotions and feelings in productive ways.  There are resources for all ages.

Simple, Easy…Donate to your PTO

Did you know that you can donate to your PTO with a simple click of a button?  Just visit the PTO website, scroll to the bottom and click DONATE.   Your donations help fund teacher appreciation, seasonal crafts sent to the classrooms of in-person students and the homes of BVA students as well as future events.

Effortless Fundraising!

While we may not be able to get together this year for large school events and fundraising, there are still EASY opportunities to help raise funds for JBN!

All you have to do is buy Box Tops participating products (like Cheerios!) and scan your grocery receipt. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need – equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love!  Use this referral code Q6KG2S44 when you sign up and you’ll get 20 Bonus Box Tops when you scan your first receipt now through 05/28/2021, while supplies last! Download the Box Tops for Education app here: https://btfe.smart.link/c2jjdifkw?referral_code=Q6KG2S44

Our goal this year is to raise $500 to help support JB Nelson.  This is an easy and fundraising free way to help the PTO and our students.
