JBN Parent Newsletter 12.22.21
Principal’s Message
JB Nelson Families, We ended our bucket filling competition this week and I was able to celebrate with the classrooms that won for each bracket. We will not continue with the golden ticket competition in January, but there will be a new challenge given that will require all classrooms to meet the goal in order to have a schoolwide celebration! Also, because so many of our classrooms filled their buckets this month we filled ANOTHER school-wide bucket! We will celebrate with a fun game on the field during recess when we return from winter break. They should be proud as they all invested and worked hard to show the JB Way! We honored the first seven JBN students to reach the 10 mile mark for our recess mileage club. They got to take a picture and were posted on the Mileage Wall of Fame! Check out my tweets for more information! Our first, second, third grade students along with the 4th and 5th grade students that are in chorus all performed their winter vocal concert on our JB Nelson stage yesterday. BFAC was here recording their performance and after it is edited there will be a link shared with parents to view in January. They did an AMAZING job and I can’t wait to see the video! This afternoon Miss Kanturek sent out an email to all first through fifth grade parents sharing that due to personal reasons she has resigned her position as our music teacher. Although we are sad to see her go, we have been able to go through a hiring process and have hired a new teacher that will begin on January 10th when we return from winter break. Be on the lookout for an introductory letter from this teacher when we return to school. We begin our winter break tomorrow and students will return to school on Monday, January 10, 2022. We hope you enjoy your winter break and we will see you next year! ~Mrs. Prentiss |

Friday School Store Our student leaders on the Student Advisory Board opened up the school store again this fall after it was closed for 2 years. We have been working out some of the kinks these past few weeks. Since there are a lot of new families we thought we could provide some information for parents. Who: Student Council members work in the store for all JBN students to shop When: Every Friday 8:45 am-9am *We close the line off to 10 students at 8:55 and send the rest of the students back to class so they are not late. Not everyone will get to buy each week. *Students who ride the bus will have an opportunity to line up in a special line so we can make sure they get an equal chance to buy. Where: LRC Why: SAB is learning economics in a real world environment. Student leaders order items they think will sell, set prices and solve issues that arise while running the store. They also decide how to use the money they earn to help fund projects that help our schools, local communities as well as our global community. Cost: Items range from $.50-$4.00 and will be updated on this price list. Limit 2 items per person. *Thank you for remembering that this is a student run program so patience is appreciated! Questions? julie.phillips@bps101.net or michelle.bach@bps101.net 4th & 5th Grade Coding Club Mrs. Phillips will be running a Coding Club from January 12th-February 23rd. Students will meet on Wednesday mornings from 7:45-9am in the LRC. We will use the lottery format for registration. Please contact julie.phillips@bps101.net with a Breakfast with Books Mrs. Phillips would like to invite all 4th & 5th grade students to join our second trimester book club of the year. Students will be able to pick one of three books to discuss. For more information click here. BHS Winter Concert Information The Batavia High School Music Department is not able to have the traditional Kaleidoscope Concert this year; instead, the High School Music Department is putting together a Holiday Movie Special along with the BFAC for you to enjoy on December 17th and through the holiday break.
