JB Nelson Families,
Thank you to all families that supported our Portillo’s dining night yesterday! It’s always nice to have a “win-win” by getting dinner and supporting the school!
Our staff and students practiced their first evacuation drill yesterday. Next week we will have a bus evacuation drill as well. This supports students that ride the bus to and from school as well as students that will take a field trip, or use public transportation with how to evacuate a bus safely in different kinds of emergencies.
Picture day is next Tuesday, September 12th!
Information has gone home with students and I Tweeted info out in August. Here is a link to the information if you need it! We are still looking for a couple parent volunteers to help us with lining up students for their pictures. Click here to sign up on our PTO Website!
We are all preparing to host our annual “Open House” event next Wednesday, September 13th from 6:00-7:00 PM. In the past, parents would attend a session where the teacher would give a formal presentation about what their children would be learning in their year together. When we could not gather in person, teachers sent home slideshows and videos that shared this information and then had a more casual meeting time for parents. Based on staff and parent feedback, we continued this format when we all returned in person.
This format allows all parents/guardians to have access to the information on their own time, and they can review it as needed. It allows the evening to be less about a presentation and more about seeing the classroom, connecting with the teacher and seeing the rest of the school building. All classroom teachers will be sending this information to parents tonight so that they can choose to view it on their own time before the Wednesday evening event. Next week, my slideshow/video presentation will be sent to families in the Friday newsletter and I will include a link to the “Specials” (Art, Music, PE, Library) team as well. We hope you will join us for this event and be sure to enter using our new entrance!
We are still in need of one paraprofessional to support our kindergarten students with academic and social emotional needs every day M-F from 8:40-3:40. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please reach out to me directly: nicole.prentiss@bps101.net so we can get them hired A.S.A.P.!
We hope you enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday!
~Mrs. Prentiss
