JB Nelson Families,

It has been a fantastic last week of school here at JB Nelson!

We held our 5th grade Celebration on Tuesday and the 5th grade students enjoyed their donuts before school, ice cream after lunch, and RMS “swag bag” from the PTO at the end of the day!

On Wednesday, we held our first full Field day in 4 years! The staff and students had a BLAST!! Thank you to the 61 volunteers that gave up their time to come and support our students at this event.

Our Prowl Leadership team met for the last time of this school year in May. We reviewed the feedback from the survey that was sent to all JBN parents/guardians and we agreed on how best to transition into next school year.

We tried some new structures in our Prowl/PTO this year. Some of it worked, and, according to your feedback, some of it did not. 

We have decided on the following changes for next year:

  • We will revert back to calling ourselves a PTO to lessen confusion
  • We will continue to have our “teams” to organize the work that the PTO does
  • Those teams will be led by the PTO board which were voted in at our last meeting
  • ALL teams shared what committees they need to have someone “Chair” and we created a Google Slideshow that has information about what that “Chair” does and when they will happen in the school year. 
  • If a “Chair” is not currently filled by anyone on the current PTO, there is a link for you to sign up! This link takes you to the PTO website. 
  • All meetings for next year have been scheduled & are on the Parent calendar. Tuesday was chosen as the day of the week that the respondents said was best for them.
  • ALL teams will meet in person TOGETHER at these monthly meetings to keep all teams on the same page and avoid extra meetings.

I will resend this information in the summer when the incoming kindergarten students are “live’ in Powerschool.

We are VERY excited about the new secure entrance that will be built this summer. Until it is completed, we will continue to work in the current office. Modified summer hours will be posted on the entrance doors and they fluctuate based on when Mrs. Carter and I have meetings or vacations.

Look for some information about new arrival and dismissal procedures in August as we will have a very different procedure for both of those next school year. 

We hope you enjoy your summer vacation and we will see you when we return to school on Wednesday, August 16th!

Discover the magic of music by joining the BATAVIA BAND & ORCHESTRA, where your talents will flourish, friendships will be forged, and a lifelong love for playing an instrument will be ignited! In addition to all the available instruments, Mrs. Hatfield still needs more new musicians to play the FLUTE, CLARINET, FRENCH HORN, BARITONE, VIOLA, and CELLO!

JBN LRC 

All LRC books were due today. You should receive a notification via email of any books your child still has outstanding.  We ask that you please return the items as soon as possible or pay for any lost items early next week so that inventory can be completed.

 

    LITERATI BOOK FAIR WRAP UP

Please contact Mrs. Phillips ASAP if your child has not received a back order or an online book order from Literati Book Fair.  There are just a few titles that were not in the backorder shipment and we want to make sure the kids get their books before summer.

Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for PTO things, like experiences for the kids. Receipts are valid for 14 days. Make JB Nelson Elementary School your home school, and start scanning. Keep an eye out for Limited Time Bonus Promos, as well! The app also has a leaderboard so you can see which JBN grade level has the most Tops scanned. 4th grade has officially  won for this school year! Donate to your PTO with a click of a button.  Just visit the PTO website, scroll to the bottom and click DONATE.  Your donations help fund teacher appreciation and other events.
