JB Nelson Families,

Our roller skating unit started this week in PE for first through fifth grade students. Thank you for sending in your child with a helmet for this activity. The students have been having fun learning this new skill!

I tweeted out information about the city project that will impact arrival and dismissal at JBN this spring. Please look over this information that the city shared with the district this week and be prepared to use alternate routes.

Our annual PTO Trivia night is tomorrow and I will be there with my team!

All money raised goes directly to the Teacher Appreciation and the 5th grade Celebration at the end of the year. Thank you to those families that have signed up and will be joining us!

If we don’t see you at trivia, we will see you on Monday!

EARN a ticket during Cougars March Madness

Game Plan:

Our school will be participating in the Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning a ticket to a Cougar’s game on JB Nelson game night on Thursday, May 16th. They will also receive a Cougars drawstring bag, a free hot dog and drink to enjoy during the game. To get a game ticket and goodies – Your child needs to read or listen to books for 200 minutes during March. Write the number of minutes you read each day on the calendar below. Add up the minutes read at the end of Spring Break. If you have any questions email julie.phillips@bps101.net.

Parent Presentation Opportunity

Please join Batavia Special-Education Parent Network (BSPN) for a Parent Presentation on Mental Health on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Rosalie Jones Administration Center, 335 W. Wilson Street, Batavia. Speaker, Stephanie Dewinski, Associate Executive Director at Suicide Prevention Services of America, Batavia will discuss and break down myths and statistics about suicide. We will discuss warning signs and risk factors for suicide, as well as steps we can take to help someone thinking of suicide and ways to connect them to supportive resources. Treering allows you to customize your yearbook! Two free pages with your own photos and memories, plus $.99 for each additional 2 pages if you need them. These extra pages make it so fun and personal, and they will appear only in your yearbook(s). Custom pages are able to be purchased & edited until April 6th. Current total: $172.10 ~ 5th grade is leading, followed closely by 3rd grade!

The Limited Time Bonus promos (see photo) are updated monthly! Receipts are valid to scan for 14 days from purchase date, and can be scanned from any account (so if you don’t scan yourself, just save your receipts for another parent who does)! The app also has a leaderboard to see which JBN grade level has the most tops scanned. Twice a year, our school receives a check from Box Tops to help pay for things, like events or activities for the kids.
