JB Nelson Families,

I have exciting news!

Our students met their first trimester classroom celebration goal last Friday! They earn a classroom celebration when they have received 10 compliments from staff for showing CHAMPS expectations in the classroom, hallways and lunchroom! Schoolwide we have earned 58, which equates to 580 compliments given to classrooms! Mr. Albrecht is working on an extra fun game that we can play outside at recess this week to celebrate this accomplishment.

The Batavia Mothers Club is holding their annual Winter Coat Drive and they have a large bin in the foyer of the school. If you would like to donate a new or gently used winter coat, please place it in the bin!

Did you know that there are many ways to “volunteer” at JB Nelson?

Opportunities for Students

Family Literacy Night

JBN will host our 7th Family Literacy Night this fall. This year our theme is literature that demonstrates characteristics of Changemakers.

On Friday, October 13th each JB Nelson family will receive a book title representing the theme. Families are encouraged to read and enjoy the book together at home. Upon finishing the book, parents sign certificates of completion that each child in their family can bring back the following items to school and receive a raffle ticket to win a $50 Spring Book Fair gift certificate or a $50 Amazon gift certificate!

Students can then request a different Changemaker book to bring home and continue until their passport is filled up. Changemaker Literature will then be connected to the JBN Reading Night activities on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 5:45-7:30 pm. We hope to see all of our families there!

LAST CALL FOR BOOK FAIR ORDERS

Literati has delivered all of the online orders and backorders and they have been delivered to the students. If for some reason you are still missing something please CHECK WITH YOUR CHILD and then contact julie.phillips@bps101.net before the deadline 10/18.

Interested in exciting events and making new friends? Cub Scout Pack 153 is currently accepting new scouts into our 2023-2024 program and are forming new dens at every grade level, K-5. Upcoming events include:

2023/2024 Yearbook information!

We are using Treering again as our Yearbook vendor. Treering offers a discount of 10% if you order your yearbook(s) by October 31st. They also allow you to customize 2 free pages with your own photos and memories, plus $.99 for each additional 2 pages if needed. These extra pages make it so fun and personalized, and they will appear only in your yearbook(s). Custom pages are able to be purchased and edited until April 6th. Open Committee Positions

We have a few open positions for Committee Chairs on some PTO/JB activities! Available committees include: BoxTops, LRC, Teacher Prep, S.T.E.A.M. lab, and Teacher Appreciation! Just navigate to the Committees area of the PTO website and click on any of these open committees to sign up! Our PTO has a binder of information to provide you with all the tools you need for your committee. As always, if you’re curious but have questions, just email us or attend a monthly meeting and ask!

Download the apps: Apple Store or Play Store. Make JB Nelson your home school to start scanning. There are some amazing Limited Time Bonus Promos to take advantage of (see pic below)! The app also has a leaderboard to see which JBN grade level has the most tops scanned. Twice a year, our school receives a check from Box Tops to help pay for things, like events or activities for the kids. Receipts are valid to scan for 14 days from purchase date, and can be scanned from any account (so if you don’t scan, just give your receipts to a parent who does!).
