Principal’s Message
JB Nelson Families, THANK YOU to all 250+ of you that attended our PROWL launch on Wednesday! Everyone who filled out the QR survey has been “sorted” onto a PROWL team and the team leaders are going to be reaching out to get a meeting scheduled! We plan to share sign up’s to support the school and our fall events on our PTO website after Open House next week! Be looking for tweets and reminders to check the website. Wednesday, August 31st will be our Open House from 6:00-7:00 PM. Teachers will send out their presentation in video format on Monday. Parents and students can arrive any time within the hour to see their children’s classroom, meet their teacher and sig up for our Parent/Teacher conferences in October. There will also be a building scavenger hunt to see all of the specials teachers and a prize if you complete the “hunt”. ALL PARENTS, you have some homework this weekend. 🙂 If you have not done so already, PLEASE use a sharpie to label your child’s water bottle, lunch box and any sweatshirt or coat they might wear to school this year. Children often leave these items on the playground or in the lunchroom and if they are not labeled, they go in the “lost and found” which means you have to come back to the school to look for them. It takes a minute to label them, and allows us to get items back to students right away. We are still looking for a campus monitor to support lunch and recess Monday-Friday. If you enjoy working with children and are available from 11:10-1:30 we would love to talk with you about this position. You can download the app today: Apple Store or Google Play Batavia Music Buffs The Batavia Music Buffs is a 501(c)3 booster organization supporting music in all of Batavia’s public schools from elementary to middle and high school. We have begun our Fall membership drive, and we’d like to invite you to become a member today. Anyone can be a member – parents, past students, grandparents, faculty, staff, friends, etc. Being a member does not involve any volunteering (unless you’d like to). It simply means that you are financially helping to bridge the funding gap that exists in the district for music. Based upon the membership tier you select you will be eligible for some fun swag from a member magnet, lanyard and/or tote bag to a wooden Batavia Music ornament for the highest tier! Box Tops Box Tops are worth $.10 each. Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need – equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love! Receipts are valid to scan for 14 days. They also have a leaderboard so you can see which JBN grade level has the most Tops scanned. 4th Graders are currently in the Lead! Make sure to designate JB Nelson Elementary School as your home school, and start scanning! There are incredible promos for limited times at certain stores: for example– get an extra 50 Box tops ($5.00 worth) by purchasing 4 participating items from Walmart! Translated, this means 4 boxes of Cheerios = $5.40 earned for JB! If every family at JB did just one promo this month, we could far exceed our previous year’s worth of Box Top earnings! Stores like Jewel, Walmart, Target, Meijer, Caputo’s, Mariano’s, Dollar General, and Costco/Sam’s Club all have similar promos running right now. Backpack MailBPS101 often receives requests from community organizations to distribute informational fliers to students in their backpacks. In an effort to be environmentally conscientious, we use an electronic format to deliver this information, which we call “Backpack Mail.” |
