JB Nelson Families,

Thank you to all families that supported our ‘Souperbowl of Caring’ last week! The EAST SIDE WON the competition and we celebrated on Monday!

The JBN Family Science Night will return on March 20th. Students learned all about this in the LRC with Miss Fink this week. If they are interested in participating they can research a scientist and write a report, bring in their collection to share it, or do a traditional science experiment. All students are invited to attend this event whether they are participating or not. There will also be a science presentation and some guest speakers! We can help with purchasing supplies if your student needs help with their materials. Let their classroom teacher or Miss Fink know if you have any questions or need support.

Please note that we will have no school on Monday, February 17th as this is Presidents’ Day.

We hope you enjoy your  three day weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!

S.E.L. (Social Emotional Learning)

School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills!

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships

All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.

All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.

This month, our focus is on Positive Relationships.

Students are learning about identifying about what a

positive relationship should look, sound and feel like:

“A relationship is a connection between two people, such as friendships or family members. A positive  relationship is when two people act in a way that is respectful, fair, and helpful for both people in the relationship. Relationships should be fair and helpful. A positive relationship makes you feel safe and cared about. It should also make the other person feel safe and cared about.”

Looking for a way to talk about positive relationships at home?

Classes are using kindness jars this month to talk about all the respectful, helpful, and kind actions that make them feel safe and cared for at school.   Use the template below to try it out at home!  (click on picture to open link to PDF)
