JB Nelson Families,

Our teachers and students did an amazing job keeping their focus on learning this week. As you know, there were many decisions being made at the state and district level about whether students should wear masks in school but our students followed expectations and continued to learn despite everything that was going on outside of school.

Once the decision was made, our focus shifted to respecting others that have different thoughts or feelings than our own. Our day started today with all classrooms holding a morning meeting focused on empathy and disagreeing in a respectful manner. I am proud of our students as they showed the JB Way and were able to move through this transition respectfully today.

It has been exciting to watch Mrs. Bach collaborate with all of our students on the school wide art project. All students are contributing to an installation that will be hung as a collage in the newly painted lunchroom. It represents our theme of “You Belong” and I can’t wait to see it when it is done!

Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing our students on Monday!

~Mrs. Prentiss

JBN Family Science Night

For those of you who were around a few years ago, you know that we usually hold an in person ‘Family Science Night’ each Spring. The intent of this event is to give all JBN students an opportunity to experience some hands-on science, participate in an interactive science presentation and to create some science of their own if they are interested. This is not a traditional Science Fair, as Ss have several options to participate such as  doing an experiment, presenting research of their choosing, or sharing a collection they might have. This event also includes a high interest, interactive presentation about science concepts on the stage.

This year, the PTO is planning to bring this back as an in person event on Tuesday, March 15th. We are planning to socially distance all of the students that have a display and limit the number of audience members in the presentation as well as having them socially distanced in the gym. If something changes and we have to pivot to a virtual event we are looking for ways to still have the students present their boards and have a live feed event that all families can view on the event night.

Please read this packet for more information about the event and please turn in this form if your child is interested in participating and presenting so we can prepare the spaces and have tables for all students that will present. Mrs. Phillips will be presenting this information to all students in the LRC in the next two weeks as well.

Battle of the Books-4th & 5th Graders

Students in 4th and 5th grade were  excited to hear about the 15th annual Battle of the Books competition during LRC this week.  All students in 4th and 5th grade are invited to participate.
