JB Nelson Families,

It was fun to see the students and staff participation in our “Read Across America” spirit week! Thank you for supporting your child with this at home!

Our third, fourth and fifth grade students will be completing the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) test next week. Students should eat a healthy breakfast, charge their Chromebooks and bring in working headphones for the Reading portion of the test.

At JB Nelson students will complete IAR Assessments on the following dates and times:

Third Grade: 3.4-3.7,3.11 @ 9:30

Fourth Grade: 3.4-3.7, 3.11 @ 1:00

Fifth Grade: 3.7, 3.11-3.14 @ 10:35

In a previous email, I shared information on an important survey called the 5Essentials Survey that is being compiled by the state of Illinois. 17% of our JBN families have completed the survey, and we need a 20% response rate for them to share the results with us.

Please take the 5Essentials Survey for us!

http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent to take the parent/guardian survey.  Additional information: Parent Guide (in English and Spanish) Thank you!

Does your child love drawing?

You may want to consider signing them up for the Young Rembrandts Program 1 hour classes After School.   Young Rembrandts™ explores the basics of visual art, in a fun & confident setting that ensures success for every child. Their Instructors show step-by-step methods to build core Drawing skills. Students complete a different lesson each week from multiple themes.

All supplies included. More info here

We hope you enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday!

S.E.L. (Social Emotional Learning)

School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills!

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships

All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.

All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.

For the month of March, our focus is on Conflict Management

Conflict resolution is how we solve problems when we disagree with someone. It means talking, listening, and finding a fair way to fix the problem instead of arguing or fighting. When we use conflict resolution, we stay calm, take turns sharing our feelings, and work together to find a solution that makes everyone feel okay. It helps us build strong friendships and show kindness, even when we don’t agree.

Students are learning about how to identify the size of problems and expected reactions to match.  Matching our reactions to the size helps us solve problems in a productive way!
