JB Nelson Families,
Get ready for “Souper Bowl of Caring” next week! ALL BPS elementary schools will be bringing in canned soup to donate to local food banks. We are engaging in a friendly competition between the East side schools and the West side schools so send in those soup cans!
It’s that time of the year! Rotolo Middle School (RMS) is starting to prepare to welcome incoming 6th grade students. They will be hosting a parent night on February 5th from 6:00-7:30 pm. This will be an open house style event with booths to help share information that parents need to have a better understanding of how RMS runs. See this flyer for more details.
On Monday ALL students K-5 will be meeting an author in the LRC. Candace Fleming, a local author of children’s books will be visiting and sharing her writing process with our students. We are very grateful to the PTO for supporting this schoolwide experience for our students!
The district will be sending an email to all parents/guardians about how to access your child’s MAP testing results in Powerschool. If you have any questions about this, please ask your child’s teacher.
Stay warm and dry this weekend, we will see you on Monday!

S.E.L. (Social Emotional Learning)
School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills!
BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs
BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships
All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.
All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.
This month, our focus is on Personal Emotions
Students are learning about identifying feelings and emotions including how to recognize when they may need to regulate their emotions.
Talk to your child about how they are feeling this week. Share about experiences where you have recognized you need to use a strategy to regulate your emotions.
Ask your child about the Regulation Spot in their classroom.
Each classroom has a space students can access when they need to regulate at school.
The regulation spots have breathing visuals students have practiced.
