JB Nelson Families,
This week we had a mix of indoor and outdoor recess due to the cold. Please remember to label your child’s snow gear with their name and send it every day!
We are gearing up for the annual roller skating unit that takes place in March during PE!
Everything is completed online, so your child will not bring in any money or permission slips.
Please fill out this Google form: Roller Skating Permission Slip
The last day to fill out the form is Feb. 10th.
If you have any questions for Mr. Albrecht, email him at: phillip.albrecht@bps101.net
Calling all 4th and 5th grade readers! It’s time to start putting together your team for this year’s Battle of the Books competition. Registration is open through January 31. There is no cost to participate and there is no before or after school commitment – all Battles take place during the school day. The one exception is that the winning JBN team will represent our school at the District Battle of the Books on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library. See these slides that were shared with the students for more information. Students can create their teams and start reading now!
As a reminder, all emergency closing or e-learning communications will come from our website and Messenger. Please familiarize yourself with the District School Closing Procedures.
Stay warm this weekend, we will see you on Monday!

S.E.L. (Social Emotional Learning)
School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills!
BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs
BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships
All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.
All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.
This month, our focus is on Personal Emotions
Students are learning about identifying feelings and emotions including how to recognize when they may need to regulate their emotions.
Talk to your child about how they are feeling this week. Share about experiences where you have recognized you need to use a strategy to regulate your emotions.
Ask your child about the Regulation Spot in their classroom.
Each classroom has a space students can access when they need to regulate at school.
The regulation spots have breathing visuals students have practiced.
