Principal’s Message Do you follow us on Instagram? See what is happening at JB! Click here. All JBN events are on the JBN Parent calendar JB Nelson Families, We launched Wellness Wednesdays this week and the students learned about recognizing emotions in their body and some ways to regulate those emotions when they are distracting them from learning. Please check the SEL Tip of the week below this message for more information! We had a couple days of indoor recess this week due to the wind chill being below zero. We noticed that when we returned outside there were MANY students that did not have their mittens/gloves and other gear. We have a few extras in the office and we don’t mind helping when we can, however we had way too many students unprepared for the cold. Please double check your child’s winter gear bag and make sure that they have all the things they need. Please make sure they are LABELED with their names too so we can get them back to them if they leave them at recess or lunch! Your child may bring home a bright orange half sheet note if we need your help! Calling all 4th and 5th grade readers! It’s time to start putting together your team for this year’s Battle of the Books competition. Registration is open through January 31. There is no cost to participate and there is no before or after school commitment – all Battles take place during the school day. The one exception is that the winning JBN team will represent our school at the District Battle of the Books on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library. See these slides that were shared with the students for more information. Students can create their teams and start reading now! All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5. This month, our focus is on Personal Emotions Students are learning about identifying feelings and emotions including how to recognize when they may need to regulate their emotions. Talk to your child about how they are feeling this week. Share about experiences where you have recognized you need to use a strategy to regulate your emotions. Ask your child about the Regulation Spot in their classroom. Each classroom has a space students can access when they need to regulate at school. The regulation spots have breathing visuals students have practiced.
