JBN Parent and Teacher Communication
JB Families,
As we settle into our second week of school, I want to share how we will communicate and partner with you in order to best support your child.
Every Friday families receive a JB Newsletter from me. This newsletter shares what has happened that week at school as well as what is coming next. There is also information about the Social Emotional Focus for that month and at the bottom you will find information about the PTO. It’s highly encouraged for you to follow me on IG as I post things throughout the week.
Your child’s teacher will send information about what your child is learning via email or a newsletter. In addition to this, staff will call parents to share celebrations or concerns. If you have a quick question, use email to communicate. If you have larger concerns, please call and speak with your child’s teacher. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please make an appointment to do so.
In Kindergarten through second grade, our teachers will use the Seesaw app. Seesaw is a digital platform that our teachers use to create interactive activities aligned to learning. Once you are connected to your child’s Seesaw account, you will be able to see their work and “like” or comment on it. Students love seeing responses from their parents! Teachers do not use Seesaw to communicate with parents, we use email and phone calls.
In Third through Fifth grade, our teachers use Google Classroom for their students’ digital classwork. These teachers will use the Dojo app to communicate class goals and celebrations. These teachers will send a QR code to parents inviting them to join their Dojo class next week. This is completely optional and parents do not need to purchase or subscribe to see their child’s Dojo points. Teachers will not use Dojo to communicate with parents, we use email and phone calls.
The Dojo app can be used in many ways. Here at JB Nelson, we will be using it schoolwide (K-5) to give positive points when students’ actions align to the JB Promise. We will never take away points once students have earned them.
Every classroom will have a class focus that they are working on improving and the teacher will award the whole class points when students are showing the expected behavior. When the class reaches the goal they will celebrate!
Students will earn individual (schoolwide) points in the hallways, in Art, Music, PE and at recess. They will then redeem these schoolwide points to purchase items at the school store during recess once a month. This will mean that their points will go down when they “shop” at the store and will increase again as they earn more.
Your child’s class will create their class goal tomorrow.
Be sure to ask them what they are focused on and how they earn their class celebration.
If you have any questions about the class goal, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
