JB Nelson Families,

We had an AMAZING launch to our school year yesterday and today!

Thank you for your support with communicating dismissal expectations for your child. Please be patient and do not cut in the car line when picking up your child. Once everyone knows the routine we are usually done in 12 minutes or less.

Our students are already getting into their new routines and have been learning all about the JB Promise:

All staff and students say this promise after the Pledge of Allegiance each day.

Teachers have been teaching students expectations and have started the process of creating class agreements ensuring that all students understand these expectations.

Parents, we need to partner with you in order to have a successful school year of learning. Please watch this video about Recess expectations so that we are all on the same page about how to safely play outside at JB. All school staff, students and after school staff have viewed this video.

This year we are selling JB Spiritwear right away instead of waiting until November. Please note that there is a “wishtree” t-shirt that all staff wore yesterday and all students will be able to purchase as part of our theme of “Belonging” this year. All PTO related sign up’s and gear are on the PTO website. Each parent needs to set up a free account in order to access information about our PTO events.

We are excited to see you all on Monday where we will kick off our “Mindful Monday” series for the year. Staff and students are invited to wear comfy clothes (Example: yoga pants and joggers, not Pj’s) and we will focus on Skills for Self Management.

Make sure to rest this weekend and charge those Chromebooks!

School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills!

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs

BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships

All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.

All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.

For the months of August and September our focus will be on Self Management.

Self-management is the ability to control your actions, emotions, and thoughts to make good choices. It means staying calm when frustrated, focusing on tasks, and practicing self-discipline. When you use self-management, you can set goals, make plans, and keep trying—even when things are difficult. This skill helps with schoolwork, friendships, and handling challenges. Learning to pause, take deep breaths, and think before acting is a powerful way to grow and succeed!

Students are learning about classroom regulation spots to help with regulating emotions and behaviors in the classroom.   All classrooms at JBN have a regulation spot for students to use tools to help them regulate!  A strategy they learn about in the regulation spot are different breathing techniques.
