JB Nelson Families,

It is time to celebrate! Each trimester we have a goal of how many class celebrations we want to have schoolwide. In order for a class to earn a celebration, they need to earn 10 compliments for showing the “JB Way”. Our goal for the second trimester was 80 and today was the last day of the trimester. WE DID IT!! Students held 80 class celebrations which means they earned a whopping 800 compliments! Mr. Albrecht will provide an extra fun game for all students to play at recess next week! We are very proud that we met this goal and will start working toward a new goal on Tuesday when we begin the third trimester.

Our Family Science night is coming on Thursday February 23rd from 5:30-7:30! This fun and interactive event allows students to experience science in a variety of ways. It is not your typical “Science Fair”. A packet of information was sent home that shared all the ways that students can participate such as researching a past or current scientist, bringing in a collection (think shells, rocks, crystals, etc) or doing an actual experiment and creating a display to share what they learned. If your child does not want to participate in creating a display, that’s okay too! ALL families are welcome to the event and we bring in an engaging presenter every year. This year there will be a “Fire and Ice” presentation by Rebecca Thompson from 6:00-6:45. This is an “Open House” event so families can show up and leave whenever is best for them.  A digital version of the packet AND a link to Sign up to participate can both be found here: https://jbnpto.membershiptoolkit.com/science-night on our PTO website.

It’s that time of year again! Every February we ask parents, staff and 4th/5th grade students to fill out the 5 Essentials survey to give the staff feedback about our school. At this time we have 15% of parents that have responded and we need 20% for our school report card. Please consider filling out the survey if you have not already done so.

Please use this link to complete the survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/

Batavia Special-Education Parent Network’s (BSPN) 10th Annual Parent Resource Fair will be held on Thursday, February 23 from 6:00-7:30 PM at Batavia High School. It is a wonderful night with community resources for students from early childhood through age 22+, including recreational opportunities, therapy providers, educational consultants, transition planning and advocacy and support.  Admission is Free.  All families, friends, community members (not limited to Batavia) are invited to attend. Visit BSPN-Batavia.org for more information.

Enjoy your THREE day weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!
