Principal’s Message Do you follow us on Instagram? See what is happening at JB! Click here. All JBN events are on the JBN Parent calendar JB Nelson Families, As we head into our Fall break we are shifting into cold winter weather. Please know that all students will go outside for recess when the conditions of the playground/blacktop are safe (not icy) and the “feels like” temperature is above zero. Please use this break to make sure that your children have the following ready to go for snowy weather:
VERY IMPORTANT: LABEL every one of these with your child’s name. We have 400 students and it can be easy to accidentally drop or leave behind their winter gear. When we find items we look for names and return them to students. If they are not labeled they go to the Lost & Found. If your child only has a coat and there is snow on the ground they will be limited to playing on the blacktop. If your child does not have a coat and it is below freezing they will be sent to the office and we will call home to let you know. You will not be expected to bring them a coat, we want you to know so that you can support them with a routine at home to make sure they don’t forget it the next day. If you are facing financial hardship we have MANY resources to support and can work with you to get all of these winter items. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher to let them know what you need and in what sizes. We are happy to help! Everywhere you turn there are Pre-Black Friday sales happening! I often get asked what the school might need so this year we created an Amazon Wish list! Link to Recess Wish list This registry has items that support our Chill Zone, Recess equipment and our Dojo Store which is open at recess the last full week of each month. As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL the rest of this week. We hope you enjoy your Fall break. Please make sure your child charges their Chromebook and has their comfy clothes so they are ready for learning on our first Mindful Monday of December! ~Mrs. Prentiss |

S.E.L. (Social Emotional Learning) School-Home connections to help students grow their SEL skills! BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 3-Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs BPS Strategic Plan Priority 2, Strategy 4-Family & Community Partnerships All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings. All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5. For the months of November and December our focus will be on Self Awareness. Students have been learning about how their actions impact others through learning about expected and unexpected behaviors. Expected behaviors are actions that help everyone feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. Unexpected behaviors are actions that make the situation feel confusing, unsafe, or uncomfortable for others. |

Backpack MailBPS101 often receives requests from community organizations to distribute informational fliers to students in their backpacks. In an effort to be environmentally conscientious, we use an electronic format to deliver this information, which we call “Backpack Mail.” |
