JB Nelson Families,
Thank you to all 80 guests that attended our Veterans day Breakfast and assembly as well as all families that sent in photos for our slideshow. We honored 75 Veterans in our slideshow and “Wall of Honor”.
We have been counting down to our Family Reading Night on Thursday, November, 20th. Every JBN family is invited! The event will last from 6:00-7:30 pm (doors open at 5:45). This event is completely free of charge. You can look forward to a fun performance, stations aligned to literacy and Wishtree, and fun prizes like a $100 Batavia Fine Arts Center gift card, book series bundles, and more!
In order to earn tickets for our raffle, we created a reading challenge for our families. Your child brought home a form last week and the more you read, the better your chances at winning prizes! Your child will also earn a ticket just for coming to the event!
PS-If you take a photo of your family or your child reading Wishtree at home, be sure to tag us: @jbnelson101 on Instagram
Did you know we have a School Store, proudly run by our student leaders in the Student Advisory Board (S.A.B.)? It is open every Friday morning in the LRC at 8:45 — all items are under $5! Every purchase helps support special school events like the Veterans Day Breakfast, United Way Holiday Shopping, and JBN Game Day.
Starting next week our K Kids will be leading a non-perishable Food Drive and our SAB will be collecting toys for Access. Here is more information about the toy drive. Students can bring the food or unwrapped toys to school any day of the week.
As always, please make sure your child charges their Chromebook and has their comfy clothes so they are ready for learning on our Mindful Monday!

All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.
All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.
For the months of November and December our focus will be on Self Awareness.
Students have been learning about how their actions impact others through learning about expected and unexpected behaviors.
At school, we use the terms expected and unexpected behaviors to help students understand social expectations in a positive, concrete way. Expected behaviors are actions that help everyone feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. These behaviors match what others anticipate in a given situation. Examples of expected behaviors include listening when others are talking, taking turns, sharing, and following directions. Unexpected behaviors are actions that make the situation feel confusing, unsafe, or uncomfortable for others. They don’t match what people normally expect in that setting. Examples of unexpected behaviors include taking things from others, yelling or using unkind words, leaving the classroom without permission, or not following directions.
