JB Nelson Families,

Thank you to all parents and guardians that attended our Slime Event, helped to run our parties and came to watch the costume parade! The students had a very fun-filled afternoon and we appreciate your support in making it happen! The slime videos will be posted on Instagram if you were unable to attend in person.

Our Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly is being planned by our student leaders in SAB. This breakfast will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 8:30 and the assembly will be held after the school begins at 9:15. If you and your Veteran would like to come to our Veteran’s Day Breakfast and Assembly, please fill out this FORM. We hope to see you there!

We have finished reading the Wishtree book! Every day this week students watched a video of me taking a link off of our “Belonging” paper chain in the lunchroom. In the video I give them a belonging “challenge” for the day. We are supporting students in trying out these ways to be inclusive and kind to others.

As always, please make sure your child charges their Chromebook and has their comfy clothes so they are ready for learning on our Mindful Monday!

For the month of  October our focus will be on Mindset & Goals.

A goal is something you want to achieve, like reading better or making new friends. To reach a goal, you keep trying and never give up!

Students are exploring what a goal is, how to set a goal, and what SMART goals are.   Below is a list of picture books that can help with learning and talking about goal setting and what it means to work toward a goal.

Book List

  • Squirrel’s New Year Resolution by Pat Miller

  • The Girl and the Bicycle by Mark Pett

  • Ambitious Ninja by Mary Nhin

  • The Curious Garden by Peter Brown

  • Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats

  • Flight School by Lita Judge

  • The Night Before New Year’s by Natasha Wing

  • The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi

  • I Can Do Hard Things by Gabi Garcia

  • The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires

Discussion

  • Why are goals important?

  • Have you ever set goals before?  Did you achieve those goals?  Why or why not?

  • What are things that can help a person achieve a goal?  What are things that might stand in the way?
