JB Nelson Families,

The weather definitely started to feel more like Fall this week. I have reminded all students that part of the “JB Promise” is being responsible, and part of that is wearing appropriate clothing when it is cold. Please make sure that your child’s jacket/hoodie/coat has their name on it. Also, it’s time to think about updating their “back up” clothes that they keep in their locker in case of an accident or fall at recess in the mud.

What families need to know about next Friday, October 31st at JBN:

Students are welcome to bring their Halloween costumes in a bag, they should  NOT wear them to school.

There can be no fake weapons or blood., save that for after school!

  • Sliming of Miss Amy, Mr. Mannion & Mrs. Prentiss will take place at 1:45 on the field and all are welcome to attend.(We will also post videos on Instagram)

  • Volunteers can check in with the front office (bring ID) at 1:55 and will be released to classrooms at 2:00

  • Fall parties will be held from 2:25-3:00

  • The optional costume parade is at 3:10. Parents should stand along the sidewalk by the kindergarten doors (S!) and on the blacktop. Students will be dismissed after the parade.

  • RAIN PLAN: Parade would walk through the gym instead of going outside & parents would not be invited as we cannot house everyone.

  • The PTO is still looking for some parent volunteers to sun the class parties. Everything has been planned and purchased by the PTO, we need parents to help run activities.  Sign up here

We hope you are enjoying the Wishtree book! Our Wishtree chapters for next week are 46-51 and we will finish the book!

As always, please make sure your child charges their Chromebook and has their comfy clothes so they are ready for learning on our Mindful Monday!

All students at JBN learn about social emotional skills in their daily classroom meetings.

All teachers follow the District’s Portrait of a Graduate sequence grades K-5.

For the month of  October our focus will be on Mindset & Goals.

A goal is something you want to achieve, like reading better or making new friends. To reach a goal, you keep trying and never give up!

Students are exploring what a goal is, how to set a goal, and what SMART goals are. Below you can find some questions to talk about goal setting and what it means to work toward a goal.

Discussion

  • Why are goals important?

  • Have you ever set goals before?  Did you achieve those goals?  Why or why not?

  • What are things that can help a person achieve a goal?  What are things that might stand in the way?
