JBN Newsletter 1.27.23

Principal’s Message

Do you follow us on Twitter? See what is happening at JB! Click here.

JB Nelson Families,

Our students were SO excited about the snow this week! As a reminder, if students want to play on the playground or on the field they need to have snow boots, snow pants, a coat and gloves. If they do not have these items they will remain on the black top. Also, as a reminder, we go outside as long as the “feels like” temperature is above 0 degrees. Next week, it looks like the temperatures will continue to drop so we may not be able to go out, but if it feels like above zero they will be out, so make sure they bring their warm winter gear. If your child is in need of any of these items, we have community support and can help families with this need. Please let your child’s teacher know!

If you signed up to attend the JBN BINGO event next Thursday, you can Prepay for your BINGO cards using this link; https://jbnpto.membershiptoolkit.com/bingo-cards

If you purchase your cards now, they will be waiting for you at your table when you arrive. You can also choose to pay for your cards at the event using cash or credit card. Pal Joeys will also be serving a pizza buffet and you can pay cash or card for that as well. The Prentiss family will be attending and we are very excited for this new JBN event!

The “Kids Heart Challenge” is officially off the ground and running at our school and we are excited to be learning about how to keep our hearts happy and healthy! Will your student choose to Be Kind, or to Move More to keep their heart healthy? Sign up HERE and as soon as you do, receive your torch shaped wristband to light the way to healthy hearts! Questions? Mr. Albrecht, our PE teacher, is the staff leading this initiative. He can be reached at: phillip.albrecht@bps101.net

Roller Skating Is Coming!!! (Click the link below to fill out skate size for your child)

Beginning on March 6th and going through March 24th,  all 1st through fifth grade classes will be participating in an in-house roller skating program during Physical Education classes. The skates will be delivered to our school and used inside our gymnasium. The following will be provided for all students: quad-skates and wrist guards. The program will include delivery and pickup of the equipment, as well as use of the skates for five days of skating.  There is no additional fee to participate. Please fill out the following link so we can get accurate skate sizes for your child. If you have multiple children at JBN, you will need to fill out a form for each of them. Completion of the form will also serve as a permission slip to participate.  Please direct any questions to  Mr. Albrecht @ phillip.albrecht@bps101.net

JBN Prowl

Effortless Fundraising!

Here are a few easy ways to help the Prowl and our students with fundraising:

**AmazonSmile is being DISCONTINUED!**

If you have not already heard the news, AmazonSmile will be discontinuing its program on February 20, 2023. Charities enrolled in the program will still be able to receive donations until the program officially closes. You can still use these last few weeks to order your items from smile.amazon.com and earn money for JB. Verify that JB Nelson Elementary School PTO is your charity of choice before shopping.

Save the Date! Gammon Coach House Dining Night

Gammon Coach House will be hosting JB Nelson Day on Thursday, February 16th!  10% of sales for the entire day (11:30a – 9p), dine in or take out orders, will come back to our PTO.  Mark the date on your calendar for lunch or dinner plans!  The elementary school with the biggest dining night gets to choose a second date and will receive another 10% toward their PTO organization!  Let’s show some JBN pride!

Box Tops

(Current total: $169.00)

Box Tops are worth $.10 each. Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for our needs like equipment, supplies or experiences for the kids. Receipts are valid to scan for 14 days. Make sure to designate JB Nelson Elementary School as your home school, and start scanning. Keep an eye out for Limited Time Bonus Promos, as well! The app also has a leaderboard so you can see which JBN grade level has the most Tops scanned. Download the apps here:  Apple Store  or Google Play Store

2022/2023 Yearbook information

This year, we are using Treering for our Yearbook vendor. They allow you to customize 2 free pages with your own photos and memories, plus $.99 for each additional 2 pages if needed. How cool! These pages will only appear in your yearbook(s). Custom pages are able to be purchased and edited until April 14th. To order and customize, go to www.treering.com/validate and enter code 1016529189553330

Art Appreciation

Being an Art Volunteer means coordinating with a classroom teacher once a month, in your child’s classroom or any other classroom.  The volunteer teaches the students about an artist or style, then the students do an art project around that lesson. Class lessons are led by our volunteers and are around 30-45 min.  We have about 20 prints and many lesson plans to use.  You do not need to have any prior experience and there will be a short “training” to show you where to locate all of the art materials.  Students really love this program and you will definitely have fun!  Art Appreciation Sign up
