JB Nelson Families,
We had an exciting week of learning at JB Nelson this week! Our fifth grade students met with the Mayor and a State Representative to learn about their roles in government and how they can get involved. Our soccer goals were reinstalled with new nets and our Gaga ball Pit mat was ordered! Thank you to the PTO for supporting us in ordering this Gaga ball pit mat so that students can play Gaga ball for more months out of the year without having to contend with dust or mud!
We are excited to share that our PTO will be hosting a Spring “Fun Run” this year. If you have been part of the JB community for many years you remember when we held a fall “Walk-a-thon”. Before COVID, the PTO had decided to shift from a fall walk-a-thon to a spring fun run and this year we get to actually hold the event! This is our one big fundraiser of the year. We don’t ask students to sell gift wrap or candy ‘door to door’ , instead we try to create a family event that also promotes healthy movement and raises funds for the school. Please mark your calendar for this fun event and get ready to raise some funds!
Our fun run theme this year is ‘Superheroes’ and will be held on Friday, May 13th. The PTO team is working with Mr. Albrecht to make sure that there are different lengths for different age groups, and they are incorporating some fun obstacle course activities throughout the new race course. In the past, we collected cash or used PayPal to collect online donations. This year, we have heard that other schools have had success using Pledge99 so we will be giving this platform a try. Students were given a flier with this information as well as a cheat sheet for how to create your account, click here to set it up for your child! More information will be coming as we get closer to the event, but feel free to start to collect pledges/donations from family and friends for your children as they participate in this fun fundraiser for JBN.
It is hard to believe but it is time for us to begin to prepare for next year! Parents have the opportunity to email me with any requests for the type of teacher they would like for their child next year. I do not accept teacher requests by name, but you can share the type of teaching style they would benefit from. These requests need to be emailed to me by next Friday, April 29th as we will be finalizing class lists in the first week of May.
Our LAST PTO meeting of the year will be held at Gammon Coach House here in Batavia! We are excited to meet in person for the first time since March 2019! Please feel free to join us from 6:00-7:30 to learn more about our new PTO structure and help us to vote in the board for next year.
We hope to see you at the JBN Trivia Night on Saturday night!
Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing our students on Monday!

The first week of May is teacher appreciation week and there will be more information coming soon about how we will invite students to celebrate their teachers this week. One tradition that we have is a BBQ on Friday for all staff. Parents usually donate the sides, desserts and beverages and I donate the meat. Parent volunteers do the actual grilling on our patio in the courtyard and the staff really looks forward to this treat! Please join us for an Open House at RMS and JBN on April 27th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at RMS or JBN, or BOTH! Volunteers and staff will be on hand at each location to show you around and answer questions about the buildings. Everyone is encouraged to attend even if you have been in the buildings before. Come see them in a new light. Additional information on the Building Our Future Together project can be found at bps101.net/boft.
