About JBN LRC

VISION

“The Learning Resource Center extends the classroom for students and staff by creating an environment that supports and enhances the curriculum.  This is accomplished most effectively when all individuals have full access to a wide variety of resources and learning opportunities designed  to develop the skills necessary to become discriminating users of ideas and information.”

MISSION

Using both physical and virtual environments, the library connects the learning community with resources and instruction to foster the discovery, creation and sharing of knowledge.

JB Nelson LRC Reading Programs

Breakfast with Books

Once per trimester the LRC sponsors a program called Breakfast with Books.  Miss Fink will do a book talk during regular library time to 4th and 5th graders. Students who wish to participate in the program can sign up using the link here:  sign up link. The date will be announced a few weeks into the trimester. Students will have from 4-6 weeks to read the book. The group will meet in the LRC at 8:00 with breakfast items to share and discuss!

Battle of the Books

Batavia Book Battle is a reading incentive program for students in 4th and 5th grade. Students read specific books and come together to test their knowledge of the books they have read.  Teams are formed with 1-4 members starting in January. Each elementary school in BPS 101 goes through a series of school battles to determine one team that will represent them in the district Battle of the Books in March.
